What’s in a win?
That’s the question that ran through Midori Miyamoto’s mind as she slowly made her way towards the backstage area. Why? Wonderful question. The answer is because it wasn’t just an ordinary win, not Midori anyway. It was so much more than that.
1. Midori had main evented a Joshi Extreme Takeover production before—that night, Ai, Mizuki, and herself went on to win the JET Trios Championships. But this match with Candice Blair? It was different. It was Midori’s first single’s main event in JET. Both matches were important, but the fact that she picked up the win in this one was an amazing personal milestone.
2. Up until the RISE Grand Prix, Midori hadn’t been involved in a one-on-one match in JET. They’d all been tag matches, bar a lone triple-threat match. It one of the reasons why she was so excited to take part in the tournament. It was her chance to prove she stand up on her own. So losing those first two matches to Stela and Stacy? They hurt. They hurt badly. Defeating Candice helped ease some of that pain. And, she done so in a pretty stellar fashion to boot.
3. It’s no secret that Midori had been scoreless going into the evening. While obtaining a win had sentimental and personal value, is was also needed. Without a victory over Candice, her hopes of winning the tournament would have gone up in smoke. She knew how the sport worked, how people would have viewed her as a massive failure. Midori saved that from happening through sheer force of will.
This win? It was pressing. It was personal. It was pivotal.
“That’s one down,” Midori said to herself as she continued to walk. She could feel herself getting amped and pumped up. However, she knew she had contain herself. “I can be happy and celebrate tonight. But tomorrow? Right back to work.” She nodded. “I don’t have the luxury of slacking off. I need to stay sharp and focused.”
Midori nodded in affirmation as she entered the locker room.
