Rio’s eyes scanned the room as everyone startled to settle down. The media members? They were respectful, per usual. And once again, her opponents were disrespectful and vile. “This starting to become a bore,” Rio said to herself as she let out a sigh.
She waited a few seconds, just in case anyone else decided that they wanted to step up and speak first. When that wasn’t the case, Ms. Kurokawa adjusted her microphone.
“I have a question,” Rio said in Japanese. Once more, she paused to glance at the media members. In particular, she made eye contact with a few to engage them. “I was hoping that someone in the room could answer it―”
There was a brief, intentional pause to keep everyone on the edge of their seats.
“Why is KAGUYA-Gun so boring? Why is KAGUYA-Gun so predictable? Can anyone field that for me?”
Murmurs erupted amongst the reporters, but no one was able to offer Rio a solid answer.
“Just as I thought.” Rio shook her head in disgust. “For the life of me, I don’t understand why Joshi Extreme Takeover even employees the lot of you.” Her words were in reference to KAGUYA-gun. “You all use the same, tired scheme every two or three months.”
She held up one finger. “One. You all go silent and disappear for an obscene amount of time.” She held up another. “Then you slink back into JET trying to be edgy. That normally boils down to attacking a championship holder or contender.” Rio held up a third finger. “You go on these long, drawn out tirades about how you are better than everyone and deserve to be champions, even though you’ve done nothing to prove as such.” She held up a fourth finger. “Somewhere along your quest, you realize that you simply don’t have the fire-power to deliver what you promised. Thusly, you bring in another member. They give you an advantage for a few weeks, that is until everyone in JET figures out how to handle them. Then they become non-factors.” She held up one last finger. “Then KAGUYA, you and your crew make that push towards the championship you’ve been eyeing. And usually? You all fail. And once you fail, you go back into hiding, only to try and repeat the full process in a few more months.”
Rio paused and gave the reporters a bit of time to catch up and gleam her words.
“It’s not cute. It’s not intriguing. It doesn’t spark the ratings. And honestly? It’s more annoying than anything. Annoying on KAGUYA-Gun’s, and JET allowing it to happen over and over again.”
Ms. Kurokawa cracked her knuckles before she turned her body and looked directly at KAGUYA.
“And let’s be clear about something. Regardless of whatever drivel that might spew your mouth, I know the real reason why you decided to target me and Tomoyo—
“You believe that me and Tomoyo are easy targets. That’s it, right? Ai Moe? She’s part of the reason why you and your crew took a step back last go around. And Midori?” She paused. “Well, we all see what she did to you.” Rio let out a little as she referenced how Ms. Miyamoto defeated KAGUYA for the JET World Championship.
“Here’s what I gather—you’re afraid of Midori. You’re afraid she going to embarrass you again. And instead of trying to fight her again, you came slinking to me and Tomoyo thinking that things would be a cake-walk.” Rio shook her head. “The JET Tag Team Championships are nothing more than a consolation prize to you and Julia. Well, I won’t stand for that. Me and Tomoyo worked too hard for our efforts to be ruined by the likes of you. You can take your need to feel validated somewhere else.”
She paused for a moment.
“I’ve got a newsflash for you, KAGUYA and Julia—we aren’t easy targets. People before you have tried to vanquish me and Tomoyo. They couldn’t. And you won’t either.”
She nodded as the reporters jotted down their notes.
“You attacked and beat us down before. Now? It’s time for some payback. And we don’t need your money―these impending punches and kicks will suffice.”
