Midori Miyamoto was completely relaxed as she leaned back in her seat and took in her surroundings for a moment. The usual suspects were in attendance, as far as members of the media. But there were some new faces in the crowd. She took note of them. She also glanced over at Natsu. Midori assumed that Natsu would speak first. This was her big moment, after all.
But that didn’t happen. Therefore, Midori took point.
Midori Miyamoto: Thank you all for coming out here today.
She quickly adjusted her microphone downward so that she could speak more comfortably.
Midori Miyamoto: I realize that this is a huge moment for my opponent. Goddess Dream is the night that she attempts to follow in her mother’s footsteps. However, I’d like to take a moment and try to convey how important this match is to me.
There was a short pause.
Midori Miyamoto: Do you all remember where I was this time last year.
There was a rhetorical pause.
Midori Miyamoto: I certainly do—I was back home in California. Why? Because I wasn’t invited to last years Goddess Dream event. A few weeks prior, KAGUYA-Gun had interfered in my qualifying bout; they attacked Mizuki and cost us the match. Because of that, we were left off the show. Heck, I even tried to arrange an interview with a few of you here in attendance today; but that didn’t work out.
She shook her head.
Midori Miyamoto: I felt really low for a period of time. Why? Because I felt like Joshi Extreme Takeover didn’t care about me. The company kept letting me get attacked and did nothing about it. And it seemed like I was just ignored whenever I did something amazing in the ring…
Midori Miyamoto: But before I could get depressed, my mentor, Merlot Ayano, stepped in. She told me to keep my head up. She told me to keep fighting. Her words were simple, but the meaning behind them were powerful. Merlot knew that I’d regret things if I quit, so she willed me to keep striving for greatness.
Midori’s eyes glance down at the JET World Championship that was resting on the table.
Midori Miyamoto: I’m glad I had a wise mentor to help me out. And I’m glad I had the wherewithal to listen.
The young woman nodded her head. Midori then shifted her body a bit so that she could look at Natsu.
Midori Miyamoto: A lot of people out there will say that my JET World Championship reign has already been validated. I defeated the scum of the earth, KAGUYA, to win this belt. And I successfully defended it against the ace of JET (Mizuki) and Mitra Marvel at Sakura Blooming. Those are major accomplishments. And if my time as champion were to end here, then I could hold my head up high…
Midori Miyamoto: But Natsu, I don’t plan on letting my reign end here. I’m sorry.
Midori halted for a moment and gave the media members a few seconds to catch up.
Midori Miyamoto: The JET World Championship? It means a lot to me. The fact that I hold it means I did the right thing.
She nodded.
Midori Miyamoto: I did the right thing by picking my head up and not quitting. I did the right thing by standing up for myself. And I did the right thing by defending JET with everything that I had. Was it tough? Yeah, it was. Was it stressful? Of course. But it’s what needed to be done. It was all for the greater good.
Midori halted for a moment.
Midori Miyamoto: And my work? It’s not over, Natsu. Not by a long shot.
She ran her fingers through her hair.
Midori Miyamoto: I promised that I’d be a champion that JET and its fans could finally be proud of. And I promised that I would help take JET to new heights. I might have completed my that first goal. But the second? I haven’t made head-way on that yet. Therefore, I don’t plan on losing this championship belt until I do so.
Midori made sure to look Natsu in the eyes before she continued on.
Midori Miyamoto: As I’ve said before, I think it’s noble that you want to honor your mother. It’s forthright. JET needs more people like you; people who want to succeed for pure and honest reasons. And with your heart and determination, I’m sure you will make your mother proud—
Midori Miyamoto: However, you won’t step on my back to do so. I’ve fought and worked far too hard for that.
