Joshi Extreme Takeover, often referred to as JET, is a Japanese joshi puroresu or women's professional wrestling promotion based in Tokyo, Japan. JET was co-founded in March 2006 by former NEO Joshi Japan’s president Miss Manami and Hanako Nakamoto who led a mass exodus from the NEO Joshi brand after its parent company, Shizuma Corp., mishandled funds. JET is currently owned by wrestlers Azumi Goto and Stephanie Matsuda.
JET quickly became one of the top joshi puroresu promotions, largely thanks to the star power of wrestlers such as Manami, Nina Sanada, Hanako Nakamoto. Unlike rival promotions, JET emphasizes skill over physical attractiveness, which led to the signing of several prominent mixed martial artists. These acquisitions helped JET thrive in a time where the Japanese audience favored MMA over pro wrestling. When it came to marketing, JET would play it straight, but was open to suggestions from its roster. It was the choice of their roster to start publishing modeling photobooks and calendars of interested workers. This combined with its authenticity helped JET secure its market from two directions. JET's in-ring style takes influence from mixed martial arts aka “strong style” with old school King’s Road philosophy, and lucha libre-influence techniques. This unique style would be referred to as “Queen’s Road Lucharesu”.
JET frequently holds shows in Tokyo and surrounding areas while also often traveling to Osaka and touring the country for special events. In January of 2018 Miss Manami sold her majority share to prized students Azumi Goto and Stephjanie Matsuda who made a name for themselves in the west. Both Goto and Matsuda secured lucrative sponsorships at that time which allowed them to buy JET without issue. Under the advice of several close advisors, Matsuda and Goto sold the TV rights of their weekly house show events "JET TV" to BS Nittele and Tokyo MX, which marked the first time that a joshi puroresu promotion has had a weekly national television program after NEO Joshi left Fuji TV in 2002. Under the leadership of Matsuda and Goto, Hanako would serve as advisor and eventually president of the company.
In May 2018 JET would do a crossover show with Lethal Angels of Wrestling (LAW) which it was partnering with to create a streaming service, The Alliance Network. In August of 2018, it was announced that JET and its sister-promotion would form an alliance alongside Women's Wrestling promotion Sakura Shoujo Stampede (SSS), Rose City Wrestling, SAKURA Pro, and Queen City Wrestling. United the banner of a working relationship better known as the International Joshi Wrestling Federation (IJWF). The makeup of these promotions would change overtime with its current incarnation being JET, LAW, Slaughterhouse Wrestling (SHW), and Japanese Renaissance of Kakuto (J-ROK). While J-ROK is an intergender promotion, its place in the IJWF was grandfathered in from its time as SSS.
In the next two years, JET would see unprecedented growth, as the ideas Azumi and Stephanie had would resonate well with a younger audience, securing a key demographic desired by notable sponsors. This would secure its place as the highest-grossing joshi promotion in Japanese history, even rivaling the success of the 90s boom period. For this accomplishment both Goto and Matsuda were awarded with the Tokyo Sports Service Award at the end of 2020.
