Episode 2: “Thunder on the Plains”
The scene opens on Sheriff Daisy Thrash, atop her trusty palomino Faith, of course, headed towards the Boyle Heights Sheriff’s office/prison. The sky is illuminated with the very last oranges and pinks of the sunrise. Something is noticeably different about the Sheriff: her blonde hair has given way to flame-red locks. This is a TV show, so the abrupt difference won’t be explained. Deal with it. Daisy hops off of Faith and ties her to the hitching post. She opens the door without looking inside.
“Mornin’, Luke. How’s our prisoner do…”
The inside of the office is far different than what Daisy left behind last night. Deputy Luke is nowhere to be found and there are clear signs of a struggle. Not to mention the cell door is wide open with no sign of its previous occupant Tiffany Santana. What grabs Daisy’s attention is Luke’s coat left in a heap on top of the desk. There is also a note sticking out of the coat pocket. Daisy sighs, grabs the note, and begins to read it aloud.
“Lookin’ for someone, Sheriff? If you want him back, come to the saloon alone and unarmed.”
The note is signed ‘The Rebeldes.’ So, Santana had herself a posse, did she? This woman was full of surprises. But then again, so was Daisy Thrash. Daisy herself knew that those surprises were the only thing that was gonna get her and Luke out of this obvious trap alive. She slides off her gun belt and places it into a chest on the floor. Steeled with determination, Daisy begins to make her way to the saloon on foot as the scene fades out.
The scene fades back in as we see the back side of Daisy as she saunters up to the saloon entrance. All of the rowdiness and music can be easily heard from outside. The shot follows Daisy to the saloon doors as she pushes them open. The music abruptly stops as the faces of multiple outlaws turn to look at Daisy. The saloon populace is all outlaws minus the Sheriff and her Deputy, who is currently gagged and being held behind the bar by who Daisy assumed was the second in command of The Rebeldes. The man addresses her.
“Nice of you to show up, Sheriff.”
“Alright, you yellow-bellied varmint, this is how things are gonna go. You’re gonna tell me where your boss ran off to, let my Deputy go, then you and your buddies and gonna pack up and vamoose!”
“I’m ‘fraid I’m gonna have to disappoint you, Sheriff. ‘Cause all that ain’t gonna happen!”
“It is gonna happen. Whether we do this the easy way or the hard way is up to you.”
The outlaws all ‘ooooo’ sarcastically and laugh.
“Am I supposed ‘ta be afraid of you, little lady?”
Daisy is being slowly surrounded by the other outlaws.
“I got a feelin’ today just won’t be your day, Sheriff. Get her, boys!”
The first one charges at Daisy’s front, but she easily lays him out with a punch. Two more grab onto Daisy’s arms, but she manages to kick the man on her right in the stomach, freeing that arm. The other man receives the Sheriff’s famous ‘Smoking Gun’ knee smash to his face, knocking him out. Daisy stands back up just in time to duck a bottle being swung at her head. Apparently that guy didn’t like getting kicked in the stomach. Luckily, there was another empty liquor bottle on the table that Daisy grabs for herself. She clocks in her wannabe assailant directly in the head. Yet another outlaw unexpectedly grabs her from behind in a bear hug. She headbutts him, causing him let go in a daze. She gets behind him and gives him a ‘South of the Border’ suplex right into the table. The table and the man collapse into a heap. Another grabs her by the waist and manages to haul her up onto his shoulder.
“You ain’t goin’ nowhere!”
Wriggling, Daisy is finally able to slide free of his grip and put the ‘Sheriff’s Lasso’ on the man. She notices the final outlaw approach with a chair in hand.
“Get her off me!”
Thinking quickly, Daisy tilt-a-whirls down to the floor. She then throws the man into the one with the chair. Both collapse onto the floor. The sound of a gun being cocked is heard. Daisy then sees that the second in command has a gun to Luke’s head.
“Nice show, Sheriff. But it was all for nothin’! Now you get out of town for good or he dies!”
“You slimy son of a…”
Before she can complete the sentence, a shot rings out. The man holding Luke collapses in pain, clutching his shoulder. Cameron Ella Ava steps out of the back room, pistol raised.
“You leave our Sheriff alone!”
Daisy quickly runs to behind the bar.
“Thanks, Cameron. Me and the Deputy appreciate it.”
“Tweren’t nothin’, Sheriff.”
“You alright, Luke?”
Luke unties his gag.
“I’m fine. Better than fine! That was amazing, Sheriff!”
Daisy turns her attention to the outlaw on the floor. She straddles on top of him and puts pressure on his wound.
“Told you so. Now where’s Tiffany Santana?”
“Boss...said she’ll see you...in Amarillo.”
Daisy immediately gets up off the man as he sighs in relief.
“Now was that so hard? Now you rustle up your posse and get out of town. I don’t ever wanna see your faces again. And let your boss know that if she steps to me, I got no problem whooping her just like I did all ‘a you! C’mon, Deputy.”
“We off to Amarillo, Sheriff?”
“Tomorrow at first light.”
The scene changes to Daisy and Luke riding out of Boyle Heights on the plains towards Amarillo. The sky is beginning to darken with visible clouds. The sound of thunder rings out over the plains.
“You know what that sound is, Deputy?”
“Uh, thunder?”
“Yes, but more than that. That’s the sound of destiny. That’s the sound of me bringing in Tiffany Santana for good. Finally, there’ll be justice.”
“If you say so, Sheriff. I believe in you.”
“That’s why I keep you around, Deputy.”
They both share a laugh as the rain begins to pour and the scene fades to black.
