RISE Grand Prix 2020 Night 1
Location: Ota-Ward Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan
Date: August 18th, 2020
Undercard:
- April Song and Aoi Kitamura defeated Machiko Hasegawa and Spring TORA
Post-match: In a weird case of post-match interview antics, Aoi reveals to April that she is her favorite wrestler and she would like to tag with her for the rest of her tour.
- Jessica Rose and Julia Zhang defeated Mizuki Nakata and Sara Ashiya
Main Card:
Match 1
Sora Todoh [0] defeated Ai Moe [0]
This year’s GP opening match was between two fan favorites, Sora Todoh and Ai Moe had the Ota-Ward crowd equally behind them. It was fast-paced and non-stop action from the two underdogs but unfortunately for Ai Moe, her neck that she hurt against SAIKO was the target that Sora Todoh needed to put her down with a Shin-Ryu Suplex after 10 minutes.
Match 2
Midori Miyamoto [0] defeated Makiya Kusanagi [0]
With JUNKO’s refusal to take part in this year’s tournament, Makiya Kusanagi was selected to fill in for the JET World Champion as a last minute entry. She was impressive in her GP debut but the former JET World Champion was on top of her game. Being eliminated in a double countout must have ticked off Midori in the wrong way. Just as Makiya was going to secure a win with a Mountain Bomb, Midori countered, slipping behind and nailing Kusanagi with a Catalyst Shift ending the match after 11 minutes
Match 3
Q w/Rei Kagura [0] defeated Masumi Tsutsumi w/Narumi [0]
Two of JET’s premier strikes face to face as both Q and Masumi spent the majority of the match taking one another down with big kicks and strikes. They both had support in the corner but that resulted in Narumi getting face to face with and getting into an argument. As Masumi was distracted, Q got an O’Connor Roll for a cheap win over Masumi.
Match 4
Vivina Wolfe [0] defeated Yuki Takigawa [0]
In Yuki Takigawa’s first GP match in over three years, it was a huge moment for the former JET World Champion to start the tournament right but she ran into Vivina Wolfe who was ready to break out as a singles competitor. Because of their multiple tag bouts against one another they knew each other so well but Yuki wasn’t able to seal the win as Vivina won with a Whitechapel Massacre!
Semi-Main
NAMI [0] defeated Talia Areano [0]
With her impressive showing against Rei Kagura, NAMI was selected for this year’s RISE GP. She took on Talia Areano who was making her return to JET after missing out the last two tours. Both had a huge chance to showcase themselves in this semi-main. After 15 minutes of great in-ring action with multiple nearfalls, the match ended as NAMI countered a Slice of Heaven by Talia off at the last second. She followed it up with a DOUBLE and immediately landed a PLASTIC SURGERY to seal the win.
Main Event
Azumi Goto [0] defeated IZM [0]
JET’s Co-Chairwoman took on the new JET Academy Championship IZM in their first ever matchup. The Tokyo crowd was behind IZM more as she has become one of JET’s pillars with her fighting spirit. Azumi’s experience played an early edge as she worked on IZM’s neck, the same one that Amy Slayton worked on but the Academy Champion fought hard. The Ota-Ward crowd was cheering loudly for IZM to fight back, and once that comeback came in. IZM went in laying into Azumi Goto. A Roaring Elbow nearly sealed a win for IZM but Azumi kicked out. IZM went in for a running Rolling Elbow but Azumi countered with a huge dropkick. A few more signature moves continued to be thrown around by IZM and Azumi until JET’s Celestial Genius countered a Jade Shoro Bomb attempt into a Red Heart II. Azumi soon saw the end as she dragged IZM closer towards a corner and nailed her with a Path Of Heaven Moonsault!
Post-Match:
As “Day of Fate” plays, Azumi helps IZM up to her feet. Almost like a proud older sibling, Azumi patted IZM’s head and said some kind words for the Academy Champion. IZM nodded and left the ring, Azumi was handed a mic.
“Oh my goodness! That was quite amazing, IZM is really strong… isn’t that right Ota-Ward?”
The crowd cheered as Azumi continued.
“21 and so much fighting spirit. IZM-chan, keep growing strong! Now did you all enjoy JET and my performance tonight?”
Another round of cheers from the fans in attendance.
“Good! Just because I work in an office most of the time I’m in JET, it doesn’t mean I’m any less of a wrestler! This year’s RISE GP has a phrase along with it right? Show Your Fire, I think I just showed that tonight! And as time passes with each and every round of the tournament, I will continue to show it over and over until I win this year’s GP! And will I main event Cinderella Story 15 if I win? That’s to be determined but thank you all for coming out and enjoying the show! ”
“As I once you used to say all the time… Forever and ever! CONTINUE TO LOVE PRO-WRESTLING!”
RISE GP 2020 Night 2
Location: Ota-Ward Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan
Date: August 19th, 2020
Undercard:
Masumi Tsutsumi, IZM, and Spring TORA defeated Midori Miyamoto, Sora Todoh, and Amalia Martinez
Post-match: Midori wasn’t in the mood to talk with Sora and said Sora needed to get much stronger still.
Vivina Wolfe, Saya Okita, and NAMI defeated Yuki Takigawa, Ai Moe, and Aoi Kitamura
Main Card:
Match 1:
Natsu Toyama [0] defeated Hanna Rockford [0]
The first match of B-Block was set and right from the word go, these two competed in a frantic pace. With only fifteen minutes, Natsu and Hanna went in to steal the show. High speed action only to be finished after 11 minutes with a Final Answer from Natsu, Hanna attempting to land a Gen-Z Knee got her in trouble multiple times.
Match 2:
Rio Kurokawa [0] defeated Megan Enders [0]
The powerhouse Enders had a huge opportunity to upset the top seeded Rio Kurokawa. The JET National Champion has been riding a wave of momentum unlike anyone in JET since winning her championship at Cinderella Story. Even with her more cold attitude towards others, Rio had the respect of her peers and the fans. Enders had been with JET but hadn’t been able to break out but saw this tournament as her chance. She nearly had a win but powerbomb but the champion countered with a hurricanrana, one Catalyst Toll and Ketsueki Toll later Rio had her arm raised in victory.
Match 3:
April Song [0] defeated Machiko Hasegawa [0]
Lethal Angel’s April Song made her JET debut against Machiko Hasegawa. Of course like most matches, Machiko had the size advantage over her foe. An interesting matchup as April’s quick combination of moves did the same amount of damage as one big maneuver from Machiko. The Brave Falcon soon found a target to work on in the form of Machiko’s right arm. This made it impossible for Machiko to lift April up without feeling immense pain. But almost as if she was fighting through every pain, Machiko fought back and nearly had it won with a Shotput Chokeslam but in the end all it took was a Swan Song followed up by a Honeypot Special for the submission win.
Match 4:
Bethany Sharpe [0] defeated Amy Slayton [0]
After losing her Academy Championship in her first defense, it seemed to have the former champion on the edge during her match with Bethany Sharpe who was coming off another big defense and importantly for her, a win over her personal rival Sakuya Goto. Both seemed to be drawing negative reactions from the crowd during the match but they had a competitive match that lasted a long while, it ended with B-Flat from Sharpe who got her first win of the GP.
Semi-Main:
SAIKO w/Julia Zhang [0] defeated Momoko Honda [0]
In the semi-main is a rematch from last year’s GP. Momoko Honda last year was able to get a huge win on then block leader but now since Pro-Wrestling Festival Momoko has struggled. She didn’t win the Gauntlet match at Goddess Dream and looks to rebound with a GP win. Meanwhile SAIKO is coming off a HUGE win and now could hold a future National/Academy title match and World Title match. The match was fast paced but SAIKO was in control for most of it, Momoko did make her comeback and nearly got the win with a Tsunami Strike. Attempt for a Happy Landing was thwarted because of Zhang at ringside which resulted in SAIKO taking advantage and ending the match with a Psycho Impaler
Main Event:
Jessica Rose [0] defeated Mizuki Nakata [0]
The Ace was still feeling hurt after her brutal deathmatch with JUNKO, bandages wrapped around the back of her neck and shoulder which Rose targeted for the whole match. She was getting confident in her own good but for good reason as Mizuki was still in major pain even after 17 days of rest. The Corrupted Light attempted for a Rose Trigger but The Ace countered and began her comeback that the crowd was fully behind. During the match every attempt by Mizuki to go for a Lanikea was blocked or countered by Jessica and the most brutal one was the one near the match where she was able to twist herself around and land a reverse frankensteiner. Jessica soon followed up with a Rose Trigger and a second one for good measure to get a HUGE win over The Ace of JET and making it 3-0 for DESPERADOS in Round 1 of the GP.
---
Post Match:
The crowd was not having it as they booed Jessica who picked up the mic and mocked Mizuki’s signature style of closing shows.
“OTA-WARD!!! DESPERADOS HAVE STOLEN THE SHOW AGAIN!!!”
A loud negative reaction followed up by a crowd chanting for Stephanie did nothing as Jessica just laughed.
“She won’t be here because she doesn’t care about you all, just like how she didn’t care about me! BUT YOU KNOW WHO DID?! DESPERADOS! You know what else!? DESPERADOS OWNS THIS PROMOTION! JUNKO is JET World Champion, SAIKO has a free National or Academy Title Match set in stone and once I win GP, I’ll have this tournament!”
“I beat your broken Ace, she’s nothing now! She couldn’t stop us, just like how all of you can’t stop me from winning the RISE Grand Prix!”
“Low LIfe” by Crobot plays as Jessica tosses her mic with a spin and laughs as she walks out of the ring, ending the show on the sour note.
